One of the messy parts of breaking up with someone is divvying up your possessions and separating out your finances. We’ve put together some guidelines to help you do this correctly, systematically – and hopefully, as painlessly as possible.
Coping with loss can be difficult enough, but there’s often a flurry of tasks and admin you need to deal with, when it’s the last thing you feel like doing. We’ve created a checklist to help you take the right steps, in the right order.
Whether they need help 24/7 – or for a few hours a week, caring for loved ones can have a big impact on your life, freedom and finances. If you’re one of the UK’s many millions of carers and you’re feeling overstretched, we could help.
Worried about how much you're spending on gambling? Is it affecting on your health or relationships? See our checklist for signs you may have a gambling problem and check out our useful self-help tools.
Financial (or economic) abuse is when someone takes or uses your money or belongings for their own gain. It can include being defrauded, intimidated, tricked or exploited. If this is happening to you, we could help you take back control of your finances.
The total cost of your borrowing may be affected.
You're charged interest on the balance of the borrowing you have with us, therefore if you miss payments or do not make payments on time, or if you're overdrawn on your agreed overdraft, the balance will be higher than it should be, and interest costs may increase over time.
Credit files can be impacted.
Depending on your particular situation, your credit file may be affected by missed or late payments on your loan, mortgage or credit card – or if you’re continuously overdrawn beyond your agreed overdraft.
The info we report to credit reference agencies will vary depending on your payment history or if you’ve made a repayment plan with us which you’re sticking to. If you haven’t made a contractual or repayment arrangement, then a missed payment may be registered on your credit file. See our credit scoring guide to find out more.
To get up-to-date information on your credit report please refer to one of the three main agencies in the UK: Equifax, Experian or TransUnion.
Does what I tell you now get used in the future?
Once your accounts are back on track and remain that way, previous conversations about money worries are not referred back to when you ask for any new products or services.
A missed payment can impact you now and for up to six years, so we urge you to get in touch with us to understand your current position. You can talk to us straight away by using the 'Chat to Cora' button (bottom right of this webpage) to get the chat started. Or you can reach us through your mobile app – tap ‘Help’ to message us and chat to Cora, type in 'Struggling financialy' to get the chat started.
We will need to understand your current circumstance and any changes which you are aware of. We may also need to understand what money you have coming in and outgoings, to understand what is affordable. If you have this information available it will help us understand how we can support you.
